Ian Mills

Exceed's director and inspiration, Ian grew up in Dublin, Ireland and trained as a Marine Engineer Officer at Cork Technical College. After four years as an engineer with Irish Shipping and Stena, Ian transferred into the Oil and Gas industry.  He joined Shell International and trained as a Drilling Engineer / Drilling Supervisor, completing the Shell Round 1 and 2 training program. During his tenure with Shell he worked in Holland, UK North Sea, Syria, Canada and Norway.

In 1998, Ian left Shell to co-found Petroweb, an online knowledge sharing forum for the Wells community, and to work as a Drilling consultant for BP in Norway. Ian's career at BP includes the role of Technical Limit leader for the Eastern hemisphere, supporting the standardization of the Wells Technical Limit & Knowledge Management initiatives.

Ian strives to cultivate an enabling environment combining operational and HSE excellence, early inclusive involvement, detailed planning, rigorous project management, ownership and effective learning. Ian understands how to motivate multi-discipline teams and deliver against business and HSE expectations. This ability, combined with his track record in performance improvement, lead to the start of Exceed in January 2005.

Exceed is operated out of Aberdeen where Ian lives with his wife and their four sons.
