Operator Talisman Achieves Success with PLATOON Project

A recent project working with North Sea Oil & Gas Operator Talisman has helped deliver increased productivity of 60 days and has resulted in additional direct savings of £1million.

About to embark on a 4-well drilling programme with drilling rig Ocean Nomad, Talisman recognised a need to maximise their performance through effective planning.

Two Exceed Performance Improvement coaches were brought on board to create a planning and risk awareness focus offshore and cement best practice amongst supervisory personnel.

The 21-month project which saw a productive time increase from 74% to 84%, was very much a rig-owned initiative. A rig-based competition resulted in the name PLATOON (Planning, Learning, Action Tracking Onboard Ocean Nomad) which was professionally branded by Exceed.

The PLATOON name quickly became synonymous with the project supported by PLATOON branded clothing, newsletters, visuals, etc.

 Additional project highlights:

• NPT (ex WOW) reduced from 26% to 16%
• 3 wells drilled with < NPT below 10%
• 2 wells came in ahead of AFE
• Learning (512 LL) at > 86% closure
• Consistent well supported CIP process
• Continuous improvement principles integrated across the operation
• Performance focus supported by measurable KPIs at all levels
• Significant improvement in morale and pride in the team, committed to maintain the progress

A deep dive multi-disciplined PPT assessment revealed the quick early wins, highlighted the real issues and enrolled the team.  

Exceed did not change technology, introduce new systems or request other capital investments. Our Performance Coaches simply went back to basics, working with the rig's most important asset, their people.
