Technical Limit isn’t just about optimal execution. It is inclusive of the planning process that precedes execution, and – in fact - focuses on expansion of this process both to accelerate execution and to allow time and space for involvement.

The theoretical limit established in the Technical Limit process is a stretch target. Achieving this target requires significant effort, particularly from the human factor. Full engagement and participation from the leadership team and frontline team are crucial to this success.

Leadership & Frontline Engagement

As leadership is the most important factor for ensuring success of the Technical Limit process, a Leadership Engagement session is held at the outset to ensure that leaders “get it”, own it and are aligned and committed to “live” the process going forward. Breakdown can occur at the earliest stage unless there is common ground and ownership of agreed goals between all the stakeholders.

The capturing and analysis of data is a fundamental component of the Technical Limit project. Rigorous data capture distinguishes between Productive Time, Non-Productive Time, and Invisible Lost Time, and provides insight into root causes for down time. Planning based on accurate data reduces errors and unrealistic expectations and allows for accurate benchmarking of “what is possible”.
