Our performance improvement teams have been supporting operators to transform their operational and safety performance since 2005.
Established in 2009, our well project management division initially focused on deepwater projects. We have since expanded our capability by joining forces with a group of highly experienced former-ADTI personnel.

Exceed’s founding director, Ian trained and worked as a Marine Engineer from 1978 before transferring into the Oil & Gas industry in 1985. He joined Shell International where he completed the Shell Round 1 and 2 training programme and worked internationally as a Senior Drilling Supervisor / Engineer. Ian left Shell in 1998 to work for BP on deepwater and HPHT exploration wells and finally as Technical Limit leader for the Eastern hemisphere where he successfully pioneered the delivery of standardised performance and knowledge management solutions for wells teams.
Ian’s greatest achievement is resolutely driving Exceed’s growth from our origins in 2005 to the breadth, depth, and track record that Exceed offers today.
Head of Well Management
A highly skilled wells project manager, Al brings over 30 years of experience as a drilling professional, personally spearheading a number of first wells for BP, Shell, Husky, TPAO and others. Al joined Exceed in 2009 and has since successfully project-managed 14 wells, consistently delivering top-quartile performance. His expertise includes challenging and complex wells including HPHT, deepwater sub salt, H2s, high angle and horizontal drilling to depths of 6500m. His international experience includes remote and harsh locations across four continents.
Al’s strengths include an exemplary safety track record, strong drilling leadership, and the ability to build high-performing multi-discipline teams.
Head of Performance Improvement
Tim joined Exceed in 2007 bringing with him a wealth of management experience and a strong track record in operational leadership, performance coaching, and facilitation. His early career includes 9 years as an Officer in the British Royal Marines where he developed a strong strategic mindset and proven project management and conflict resolution skills. Having completed a full-time MBA in 2001, he went on to co-own a Leadership & Teambuilding Consultancy in South Africa. Tim is highly skilled at coaching leaders at various levels.
Tim has an unwavering commitment to delivering excellence whilst maintaining strong, lasting working relationships with colleagues and clients.
Commercial Director Wells
A Chartered Petroleum Engineer, John has 17 years of industry experience, covering roles from roustabout through to Drilling Superintendent. As Commercial Director for ADTI, John was responsible for client contracts as well as overseeing ADTI’s supply chain. Having worked predominantly in the North Sea region, John’s international achievements include overseeing Challenger Minerals’ first operated well in the Gulf of Mexico.
John is a perceptive professional whose balanced approach is grounded in a sound mix of technical and commercial experience.
Fiona van der Vossen
Having initially started her career in law, Fiona went onto further qualify with the Chartered Institute of Taxation, following which she worked as an international tax manager for Price Waterhouse and Ernst & Young. She branched out into the Oil & Gas sector 10 years ago, having completed a Masters in International IT law. For the last six years she has brought this wealth of experience to Exceed, where she manages their legal and tax affairs both in the UK and internationally whilst also overseeing the work of our charitable organisation, the Exceed Trust.
Fiona plays a key role in the planning and implementation of Exceed’s continuous growth in relation to new territories, markets and partnering opportunities.
Well Test & Decommissioning Manager
Having started out his career as an Instrument Engineer for British Steel, John transitioned to the Oil & Gas industry 24 years ago joining the Expro Group as a Well test supervisor. He joined ADTI in 2001 where his final position was that of Completions Team Leader. John has been responsible for the delivery of DSTs, completions, workovers, interventions and decommissioning projects from conceptual design through to operation completion and close out.
John is an experienced well test engineer and team leader who brings a high degree of professionalism and can-do attitude to any project.
Well Engineering & Operations Director
A committed well engineering professional, Calum has a 20+ year industry track record including operational, project management and offshore experience. With a strong engineering background, Calum has a proven track record in delivering conventional and complex wells in the wider North Sea region as well as West Africa. Career highlights include acting as Wells Transition Manager during transfer of operatorship of some UK SNS assets and recently managing ADTI’s wells FEED team for a carbon capture and storage project.
Calum’s key strengths are his broad project management experience, collaborative approach and ability to foster strong client partnerships.
Production Technology & Petroleum Engineering Manager
A Petroleum Engineer with 27 years of international experience in completion, well test design, petroleum engineering and well construction operations spanning drilling, subsea, completion, test and intervention disciplines. With a 10-year track record as ADTI’s focal point for production technology, Steve offers extensive expertise in all aspects of petroleum and well engineering with respect to life cycle completion and well test design.
Steve is an experienced and dedicated professional who has been recognised as a true subject matter expert in his field.
Bart van de Laar
Wells Project Manager
A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Bart has 14 years’ industry experience covering various on- and offshore drilling roles from trainee drilling engineer up to his current position of Wells Project Manager. His areas of expertise cover all aspects of well design, well planning and execution including exploration, appraisal and development wells in the North Sea, West of Shetland, Houston, West Africa and Middle East.
Bart’s key assets are his sound commercial awareness and his ability to build strategic relationships with clients and stakeholders throughout project planning and delivery.
Chief Financial Officer
A practicing Chartered Certified Accountant with over 20 years of experience, Martin’s relationship with Exceed commenced in 2006 as an external adviser on tax and financial affairs. He is now the group’s Chief Financial Officer overseeing accounting, cash flow, domestic tax planning and financial reporting. Prior to joining Exceed, Martin founded and subsequently sold his own consultancy business specialising in advising oil and gas contractors.
Martin’s key assets are his strong analytical ability, forward-thinking approach, and entrepreneurial outlook
Engineering Team Lead / Senior Drilling Engineer
Dave is a Drilling Engineering professional with over 12 years’ experience in a variety of on- and offshore positions, progressing from rig crew to Senior Drilling Engineer and Engineering Team Leader in less than 10 years. Dave has a strong operational track record covering all aspects of well design, well planning and execution on exploration, appraisal and development wells in all areas of the UK North Sea including West of Shetlands.
A dedicated and conscientious engineer, Dave’s key strength is his ability to lead others to deliver the required objectives while actively mentoring and developing junior engineers.
Completions & Workover Manager
Following an early career in the Merchant Navy as a qualified Marine Engineer, John started his career in the Oil & Gas industry 30+ years ago, moving through the ranks as a Well Test Operator, Chief Operator and Supervisor. Having joined Santa Fe in 1997 John built on his significant operational well testing experience cross-training in completions and workover operations whilst working his way up to the onshore position of ADTI Completions Team Leader.
John’s key strengths include his technical knowledge, personable approach and ability to identify the right technical and commercial solutions taking projects from concept to completion.
Ross is an experienced Subsea Engineer who has been involved in the oil and gas industry for over 26 years. Initially working with Cameron, Ross gained valuable operational experience both offshore and onshore before joining ADTI in 1998, where he ultimately achieved the position of Subsea Team Leader. His experience covers the spectrum from basic well drilling through to multi-well completions and workovers, supporting project teams from a subsea perspective on both commercial and technical aspects.
Ross is a focused team leader whose achievements include design, planning and delivery of a subsea wellhead and christmas tree system for a multi-well campaign.
